A Parent’s Checklist For Children’s Oral Health

Placing an importance on your child’s oral hygiene goes beyond just keeping teeth clean. The truth is, learning a habit such as brushing your teeth regularly at an early age, will also encourage children to build other healthy habits regarding their hygiene. While the onus often falls on children to establish these habits as they grow older, a habit must first be formed with the help of their parents. Consistent dental care at home and regular visits to the dentist are imperative to helping children maintain healthy teeth and gums. But how should parents begin encouraging their children to brush? The easiest way to keep a youngster engaged is by making the act of brushing fun. Typically, parents will do this by letting their children personalize the experience in some way. For example, letting him or her choose a child-sized toothbrush with soft bristles in a favorite color or embossed with their favorite cartoon character can go a long way in encouraging regular brushing. Protecting any child’s teeth and gums will require some careful attention and dedication from their parents.
